That's essentially what we do for the conference rooms and monitoring-wall displays at work, though none of those displays are 4K (yet, but price drops mean most future purchases will be). Not as good as the iMac 5K, though, due to the refresh-rate problem with HDMI 1.4. Still, it's a whole lot easier to figure out the mix-and-match challenges on the Apple platform than on Intel/Linux platforms.
