The price of using it -- and similar major "free" providers like Outlook, Yahoo, Facebook, etc. -- is agreeing to being subject to intrusion. If you don't want to pay that price then you're going to have to pay cash instead. There are a plethora of inexpensive mail providers out there. Some have already been mentioned. Others includes the likes of pobox and fastmail. Several "original" providers like The World and The WELL are still around. You could run your own mail server on a small AWS instance for less than $10/year. -- Rich P.
