You create a mount point by making a directory, say /home/chris/externaldisk. The mount itself is as simple as mount /dev/$DISKPATH /home/chris/externaldisk If you want automounting when you plug it in, you'll need to get advice from someone who does OpenSolaris desktop stuff. -dsr-
