it's an hp photosmart d110 -- printer/scanner.  printing
works fine.  scanning's the problem.

have not set up iptables on any of the three machines.

did -- disabled.

as an exercise, i moved the printer closer and connected a
usb cable from the printer to cmp#1 and xsane finds the
printer and works just fine in the scanning mode -- so a
network issue indeed -- but ....

btw, cmp#1 once ran xsane over the net just fine.  i'm not
exactly sure when it stopped -- when i upgraded from fc25 to
fc26, or just at the latest update of fc26.
