[Discuss] desktop problem

behaves normally when i log in remotely from my laptop via ssh.

after i log in locally, when i hover the mouse pointer over
"activities" in the upper left hand corner, the screen
altenates at about one second intervals between the plain
blue screen and a dark screen showing the "favorites" on the
left hand border.  after much fumbling i might launch a
terminal, and if so it behaves normally, except when the
mouse pointer hovers over it, in which case there is much
fluttering.

basically the mouse behaves as if i were punching the left
hand button randomly.  whatever -- it's bizarre.  dnf
upgrade didn't change anything.

any suggestions?
