I received some responses from a list member, off-list. Unfortunately, none of the things tried, succeeded in bringing up Bluetooth at login. I thank him for replying and for the suggestions. This morning, I was looking in the openSUSE repository and found a package 'bluez-auto-enable-devices'. Per the description, this package will enable all Bluetooth devices, absent another tool handling them (desktop specific items like Blueman or GNOME or KDE applets). This package once installed, then rebooting, successfully enables the Bluetooth dongle during the bootup process, so once logged in, Bluetooth was already up and ready to go. In checking the status of bluetooth.service, prior to the installation of this package when Bluetooth did not come up enabled, the journal displayed an 'unexpected NULL' at the end, which I'm told looked like a bug. With this package installed, the journal now displays no errors.
