indeed it did, and the partitions as well.

NAME MAJ:MIN RM SIZE RO TYPE MOUNTPOINTS
  sda 8:0 0 465.8G 0 disk
  ??sda1 8:1 0 600M 0 part /boot/efi
  ??sda2 8:2 0 1G 0 part /boot
  ??sda3 8:3 0 464.2G 0 part /home
                                 /
  sdb 8:16 0 465.8G 0 disk
  ??sdb1 8:17 0 16M 0 part
  ??sdb2 8:18 0 465.7G 0 part
  Rama0 252:0 0 8G 0 disk [SWAP]

/run/media was there; i manually created
/run/media/moylan/BCKUP1p and successfully mounted the disk
there from /dev/sdb2 -- all of which the OS did formerly.
who knew? thanks for your help.
