With today's new 6.12.5-amd64 kernel, hibernation works again. At least 
it came back twice in a row after the new kernel boot, that seems a 
decent test.

As for the sticking trackpad, I followed the procedure they suggest 
(open the machine, loosen the screws that hold the trackpad in place, 
shove it towards the keyboard, re-tighten the screws, put it back 
together). I think that did it.
