my guess: a BLU meeting is ballpark 100GB network traffic (the great
majority of it egress). how much would be ok?

a couple options possibly worth considering:
1) the FSF hosts a jitsi server; if anyone is an FSF "associate member" (or
higher) they can create a jitsi room for the BLU which anyone can log into:
        https://www.fsf.org/associate/about-the-fsf-jitsi-meet-server
2) openSUSE hosts a jitsi server at https://meet.opensuse.org/ which they
advertise as "openSUSE has a Jitsi Server that can be used by anyone".
indeed it seems to be fully open and anyone can create a "BLU" meeting
there which others can join (I did and it seems to work).
3) if we really want to self-host our own and don't have a good place to
put it, microsoft gives nonprofits $2000 annual azure credits which
could be used to run a jitsi server:

[this is the third mta I've tried to get email to discuss at blu.org, the list
blocked the first two ("Client host blocked using zen.spamhaus.org")]
