LINUX & a Diamond Viper Card

I have been lurking on this listserve for over a year now. Once I saw the
post that MicroCenter had the Slakware LINUX CD's for $9.19, I decided to
give LINUX a try. Unlike my normal mode of operation, I actually took time to
read the documentation. I discovered to my dismay that LINUX and
Diamond video cards, the Viper in particular, may mix like oil & water.
Is this true? Or is there a driver that I can use with LINUX and my
Viper card to run X-Windows? If not, any suggestions as to a fast
video card that is happy to run LINUX? My board is VLB, no PCI slots.
I look forward to hearing from some of you LINUX gurus.
Jim

Could you please continue the petty bickering? I find it most intriguing.
