ignored potential competitive threats.

   Both Windows NT and Windows 95 disable any active partition flag
   for either other operating systems or multiboot loaders.  This
   behavior was also present in DOS at least as early as 4.0, although
   no one probably noticed.

I'm sure that was no accident.

I get the feeling that the adherents of Anarchism and similar
anti-government political ideas are like the people who want to start
their own business so that they can "be their own boss" and not have
anyone tell them to do things they don't want to do.  As a business
owner, let me assure you that "being your own boss" means that *you*
get to tell *yourself* to do those things you don't want to do, or
else you're out of business, pronto.  I suspect that practical
Anarchism would be very similar.
