Here are some facts. I use Highway1, but I have not had my Linux system up on
it yet.
Currently, the service provides a single ip address to the host computer. It
is served via dhcp. There is no special software that is loaded into a system
by the Highway1 installers. All your system needs is a DHCP client. The MAC
address on your ethernet card is checked by the dhcp server, so the ip address
request must be done on the system that contains the ehternet card with the
correct MAC address. (BTW: The cable modem also has an IP address).
Although I have not tried it, others have used one system to acquire the ip
address, then have brought up linux with that ip address. The reason that my
Alpha Linux system has languished a bit is that it did not have a monitor. I
just bought one this weekend.
