Segmentation Faults

Hi,
I've been trying to install Slackware (Walnut Creek distribution, March
'97) on a 486SX Compudyne PC. I replaced the 310mg drive it had with a
510 meg drive. The 310 mg drive worked just fine but I ran out of
space and decided to replace it with a bigger 510mg drive.
During installation I get these messages that zip past me before Slackware
goes to the next setup screen, making it impossible to read the
messages.
Eventually, the system crashes with a whole bunch of "segmentation
fault" messages. The machine does have a rather old bios but the
techniciains at the bios company told me it should see it, and it does
when I go into the CMOS settup. The people at Walnut Creek told me to
make sure the hard disk is set to master and the CD-ROM set to slave,
which they have always been. As far as I can tell, the PC had just one IDE
adapter.
Is there anything else I should be looking for? It sounds like the problem
is related to the harddrive itself; the drive is a good, working drive,
but maybe I should'nt be using a larger drive on this system. Is it a CMOS related
problem?
