Guilty ;-).
It's not a palmtop. It's the 505TR subnote: 300MHz mobile pentiumII,
128MB RAM, 10.x" XGA color (1024x768x16), 8.4GB disk, integral v.90
modem, 1 PCMCIA slot. A hell of a lot of functionality in less than 4
lbs. Installing RH6 was a no-brainer - including sound.
There's one VAIO device that's even smaller but I've never heard that
anyone has put Linux on it. There may be some glitches with X due to
the sreen geometry.
On a similar note - I had breakfast with Jim Gettys of X Consortium,
Web Consortium and Digital fame on Wednesday morning. Two thirds of
the way through the meal he pulls a static bag out of his shirt pocket
and hands it to me. It's Itsy. TWM and xterm running on a touch
screen in the palm of my hand. Yes, they plan to make it real. No,
they can't say when. He said they don't think it's a very useful
device without voice recomendation. I asked if he could add "a lid
that feeps twice when flipped open" to the list of product
requirements ;-).
