Multiple ethernets on one cable modem

I stand corrected, MediaOne does indeed require a valid MAC before leasing
an IP.

Does anyone know if this was always the case? I seem to remember my MAC
being recorded AFTER we had the connection up and running.

You do indeed share bandwidth, I'm not sure if you get an extra mailbox (it
may have been offered, but I didn't ask or take one).
