I really think this type of display has a tremendous potential. We have see
this before when Thad Starner made his wearable computer presentations. 

While I think there is a tremendous potential for portable computing, but
even for dektop computing. Rather than sit in front of a monitor with back
and eye strain, if you could have the capability of a reasonable desktop,
800x600 or better. Some real workplace advantages:
1. You remove the display footprint, and you have a desk.
2. In cases where a person is dealing with a customer at the other side of
the desk, not big monitor in the way. 

While there are significant portability aspects, just consider sitting at
your desk with just a keyboard and an eye piece. This might be more toward
the tool model. Companies like Micro Optical could develop a non-battery
more obstrusive eye piece that could be marketed as a replacement for
terminals. It would not be portable, but it would give them another market
nitche.  I would love to have a portable Linux box that I would carry around
with me all the time, but the economics are not right yet.
