This started happening to me when I upgraded to the latest OpenSSH a 
week or so ago. Prior to that my connections to BLU.ORG would stay up 
for days at a time. I think it might be a feature of ssh and not Mediaone. 
Note that the dhcp daemon does renew the lease periodically.
