Mediaone host names

Please prove me wrong here, but if you run a dhcp client and an SMTP
server, can't you run a script which periodically will perform an ifconfig
<M1 Ethernet interface> and email it to another account you have? That
way you don't have to contact M1. If not, what am I missing?
