Easy question re: laptops

I'm about to be put in the situation where I'll have a laptop that needs
to dual boot Win2000 and Linux.  Recommendations?  Thus far they've been
buying IBM thinkpads (x20?).  Will those work?  What limitations am I
going to run into?  Where's the definitive site for this sort of
information?  linuxlaptops.com seems to not be in business anymore, and
linuxhardware.com is a cybersquatter.
