I've been running 7.0 since it came out; I'm running 7.1beta on one of my
boxes now.
I haven't had the problem you describe, but then I generally use a
coarse-grained partitioning scheme: 20mb /boot, 2gb /, 128m swap, and the
remainder in /home.
I've compiled a bunch of stuff under 7.0 without a problem. I haven't
tried rebuilding the kernel under 7.0, though.
