Possibly.
I bought a little Sony Viao recently (PCG-Z505LE). I thought I got a
good price until I the Ibook came out. My machine is still noticeably
smaller, but I don't have a CD drive builtin (nor external CD--I NFS
to another machine). I also don't have the battery life, nor such
affordable extra batteries.
To keep from kicking myself too hard I rationalize thus:
- This Viao *is* smaller and lighter.
- Linux is of specific interest to me right now, being "Unix" isn't
specific enough.
- Being able to run x86 Linux binaries is nice.
- I don't really need a modem, so *what* if my builtin Winmodem is
likely forever useless under Linux.
- My battery life is too short to worry that hard about not being able
to change screen brightness under Linux.
- I come from Mac land, not having it available is possibly more
educational for me.
