Strange performance of Linksys box

I have several machines. The desktops are all static. The reason the laptop 
is dynamic is that I plug it in at Compaq and at Northeastern.
Setting up a static is simple. I have a scheme for MIT. 

In any case, I think the instability was that I had jostled the dongle cord 
disconnecting the signal which caused dhcp to serve me up another ip. With 
the old Linksys, I always got the old one unless my daughter's laptop was 
connected in the meantime.
