kerberos

does anyone have any experience insta//ing kerberos? Any help would be greatly appreciated.
I used the tar ball and it seemed to be successful, however i had to add my own config file and then it complained because there was no realm...i then found that i did not have the directory /usr/local/var/krb5kdc
like i was suppose to...
i tried the rpm but that did absolutely nothing...
any pointers?
