CPU's and motherboards?

As I said in a separate email, I'm looking to build a new, fairly high-end 
x86 box.  Has anyone heard of any problems with Linux and recent 
motherboards or CPUs?

Likewise, it's been a while since I've researched these things.  Any 
recommendations on chip and motherboard review sites, or anecdotal info?
