You'd be absolutely correct... Monday + !caffeine = "confused Tim"
However, having spent a lot of time in Hell (also known as Windows tech
support) fat16 is 2gb and fat32 is 4gb... I'm not sure if Linux supports
fat32 or not. Even then, it still wouldn't be capable of holding an entire
DVD worth of material.

I don't think you read the message completely. The question wasn't
"how can I make a large file" but, rather, "how can I make a large
file on a partition that is shared between Linux and Windows"? Do you
know of an extN driver for windows he could use? The NTFS driver for
Linux is still pretty raw....
