Sounds like a file with cr/lf line terminators and maybe a ^z.

I don't have a guess about the other errors; I'm kind of rusty on c++,
although I run into situations a lot where a c++ program will copmile unde
rone compiler but not another compiler or a different version of the same
compiler.
