RAID--quick, cheap, good/fast, pick all 3

Has anyone tried to build RAID 1 arrays (mirror) with /dev/shm?
This should get you at least the read speed of a RAM disk, 
while maintaining integrity during the occasional reboot / trip
the power cord event. Write may be relatively fast as well as
the two halfs are synced 'block by block'.

And as another disk reliability tool: 'smartmontools' allows
you to read the 'SMART' information on your disk. Very
nifty to discover disks that are about to go.
