Hi David,
I recently re-jigged some of my emacs defaults and was surprised how
much easier emacs customization has become. With recent emacs versions
you can do the customization with easy point-and-click menus that will
then (if you click on the "save" buttons) add it to your ~/.emacs file.
Just follow the menus:
Options
-> Customize Emacs
-> Browse Customization Groups
-> Programming
-> Languages
-> C
-> C++ mode-hook
