Not recently, but I never had much trouble with Dell Inspirons.
Limiting your price to under $2,000 initially struck me as
eliminiating the possibility of getting a high-end laptop, but it does
seem a little more feasible these days. I guess it all depends on
what you consider high-end... ;-)
I own a Dell Inspiron that I bought quite a long time ago (maybe
1999?), and it would still work quite well had I not recently
destroyed the power connector. Getting Dells serviced in South Korea
seems to be impossible...
We also supported a variety of Dell laptops at MCL, and we never had
any problems that we didn't cause ourselves... All of this was over 2
years ago, however, so things may have changed. But Dell seems to
mostly use common commodity components, making Linux support generally
a snap, from what I've seen. As with everything else, exceptions
abound, no doubt.
