Hot sync and Treo 650

Has anyone tried hot syncing Treo 650. 
it comes with a warning not to sync with the older software, but of course 
they supply sync software for Windows and Mac. Being a Linux-only person, I 
would prefer to sync with jpilot (preferred) or kpilot. I was just 
wondering if there might be some issues. I haven't yet tried it.
