MS SQL locks you into a Windows server.
Both the IBM and Oracle products are good. Oracle has very strong support
for Linux on a number of platforms and fully supports 64-bits. The real
advantage of using a 64-bit platform for a database is its large linear
address space. AFAIK, on the x86-64 architecture, you can build 32-bit apps
to connect to a 64-bit Oracle 64-bit database.
