usb drive reconnect after power interruption

I wasn't actually unplugging the usb drive at all; I was power-cycling it.

I eventually gave up on it and just shut down the laptop entirely and 
did a cold boot. Windows came back up in VMware the same as it would 
have after a BSOD.
