Ok, here goes the flame war ;-).
I use Verizon DSL with some caveats: I don't use their DNS servers (they
are about as reliable as a Yugo taxi cab) and I don't use their email
address.
I can't tell you how many people I have had complain about DNS issues
that turned out to be Verizon's DNS servers. I am not sure exactly what
they are doing wrong, but they either force their servers not to update
per the TTLs, or they are just _really_ bad at configuring them. In
fact, nearly every complaint about Verizon DSL that I have heard I can
almost bet were originally caused by their DNS. That includes supposed
service interruptions (I believe that the service itself was working, it
was just that no hosts were resolving). I think that someone on this
list may have originally turned me on to this as an issue with them some
years back.
Since I have been manually entering my DNS server (I use the servers
that I maintain, so I know they are at least reasonable reliable), I
have not had a single service outage (about 3 years).
With that said, and the price being more than respectable compared to
others, I think it's a reasonable option. (Your mileage may vary).
Thanks,
Grant M.
