You're sorta out of luck, because every window manager is different.

If they present a menu system, they probably comply with the
freedesktop.org standard for menu items and/or desktop items. GNOME,
KDE and XFCE comply. Dr. Mbogo's Funky Scheme-based Window Manager And
Bulk Erase Utility is probably not compliant.

There are tools for Ubuntu to add such entries; I forget what
they're called.
