CD/DVD/USB and mounting...

I opted to cheat (had a tty-only session to another system) and tail 
/var/log/messages, found the /dev/ for the usb stick (in this case) and 
mounted it under /mnt/usb (I created usb under /mnt)

I'd still be interested in feedback of other ways/tools.
