smbmount vs. smbclient

I am trying to mount an XP share on my Ubuntu 6.06 machine. It fails like this:
# smbmount //somemachine/someshare /mnt/smb -o user=somebody,workgroup=somegroup
Password:
3441: session setup failed: ERRDOS - ERRnoaccess (Access denied.)
SMB connection failed
root at bottom:~#
Two odd things. I can use a similar command to mount Samba shares (so
I sort of know how to operate smbmount), and I can access the share
using the GUI (I think it uses smbclient, but anyway, my computer can
access the share).
Looking at Google I see people with similar problems, but no solution.
Ideas?
Thanks,
-kb, the Kent who is running Ubuntu 6.06.
