fwiw this is on a athlon 64 x2.  huh, maybe it's centos
5x specific?  i had no issue with gnusense or
fedora a while back from what i can remember.  ah well, instead of
spending too much time trying to figure it out i'll just switch to
fedora 11 final next week for my test box.  thanks guys.
