On linux you can use smartctl to read and monitor hd smart data. Not sure on the windows end.

Subject: Hard Drive Spindle Temp ???
Sent: Feb 18, 2010 10:38 AM
Good Morning
I have a friend who is working on a project and they want to monitor the temperature
of a Hard Drive, while under test ...
I understand that some hard drives have a capability called: “Smart Data”,
that records the spindle temperature.
Are there any MS Windoze drivers that will monitor the Temp via Smart Data ?
Has anyone used this capability on a Linux Box ?
