preferred linux distro for workstation usage?

Mint has a super sweet interface and, as you stated, works in a very similar
fashion to Ubuntu (packages and what not).

I'm fond of Mint, but am now at the point where I prefer a smaller, quicker
and more trimmed down system.  I usually install Ubuntu Server and then add
the ubuntu-desktop package set.
