It probably is dead, but there is another possibility: Maybe your external
enclosure is bad (or doesn't support 2T drives) and therefore causing the
Mac to fail with the drive... (For that matter, you're not talking about a
super ancient mac, are you?) And maybe your linux system has an old BIOS or
kernel, which doesn't support 2T drives.
If you can hook it up (and get it to fail) on a system that definitely
supports some other 2T or larger drives, that would clinch the diagnosis.
