Rob,
You might consider just doing a forklift upgrade. Build a new box, and put the
same software on it.
For a windows based network, I have used Samba to provide a central
file store before.
If you want to go to a different backup solution, install
crashplan.com free client
on your machines and back them all up to one. (Mac, Windows, Linux, and more)
I don't know of a 'Windows Media Server' equivalent, but I am sure
there is something
that does that well. I would guess looking at Myth, but that is just
a guess as I don't use it.
