Hi Tim,
I can't offer a good comparison between the choices available (there are
many). But I want to throw in 'monit' as a choice worth considering (
http://mmonit.com/monit/). It's really quick to setup and quite capable.
Nagios can be more powerful, which would take a bit more setup. So if
your situation calls for a simple solution, monit may be a good choice.
