[Discuss] Problems with Firefox 30.0 and video preferences?

I've been using firefox as a management interface to feed video links to
mplayer, and after upgrading to firefox 30.0, firefox now ignores the
application preferences and plays all mp4 videos in the browser.

Has anyone encountered this and found a way to fix it? I don't want to play
the videos in a browser, I want to launch mplayer to play the videos, and
this has worked fine for years before 30.0.
