They *should* have gone out of business. If anyone cared.
Building secure systems is hard, it takes time and effort, it slows
things down in a world that worships "feature velocity" and considers
continuous integration an unquestioned, God-given reality.
If you look at the numbers it is better to put in minimal effort (don't
encumber anything else), and then when something happens muddle through
with furrowed brows and great sincerity*.
The stock price of big companies with horrific breaches always recovers
in a few months of not weeks. Were Jaguar Land Rover an independent
stock I bet it would now be near where it was before its shutdown took a
sizable bite out of the UK economy.
