[Vhfcn-l] You need to pay attention to your health

  I was updating some friends on my status after knee replacement. After 
two weeks I'm out and doing my own shopping and runs to the post office 
and town dump / social center and don't need a cane. Shopping at Market 
Basket pushing my shopping cart was the same as 20 minutes using my 
walker for exercise.

  I noted one friends daughter said her dad had gone back into the 
hospital. He had both knees replaced and had troubles with one So I 
checked to see if that's what it was. Unfortunately it was not. Like 
many other Nam vets he has diabetes. He was in the 1st Radio Research 
company in 67-68. I found out he finally went to a local hospital 
because his feet were black. He has diabetic nephropathy. One of the 
local guys that was a Jar Head in Nam said he had visited in the summer 
and he was sitting in a recliner chair and he noted that his socks were 
off and he could see that his feet were purple. He asked when he was 
going to see the doctor and the response was "eventually".  I would say 
that at age 71 he will be loosing his feet. The doctors said his muscle 
tissue was white. We have known each other since I was in the third 
grade and he was in the second grade.
