Best backup/archival medium

Since I got such a good response to my request for
SCSI-dealer recommendations, I thought I'd ask for further
advice regarding current thinking about archival/backup
storage. I'm primarily interested in opinions about physical
media, though recommendations for various backup/archiving
softwares are also of interest. For example: I've heard
some folks saying that SCSI disk drives are so inexpensive
these days that they should be considered when formulating
an archiving-strategy, like maybe do an incremental backup
to tape weekly in combination with a full-image copy to a
disk that's identical to your main disk on a nightly basis,
as a hot spare...

Poor me - the only backup device I have at the moment is a
1/4" 150Mb SCSI streaming tape which has been absolutely
bulletproof and given great service but, of course, it's
now ridiculously undersized given the capacities of any
currently available disk I'm likely to buy.

Thanks in advance for any info you may care to supply.
