Best backup/archival medium

I'm currently doing the home backups on a Ditto Easy800 that
I found on CompGeeks for $15. It's only a TR-1 drive - 400/800MB
and it's a floppy device.

I occasionally dream of replacing it with one of the Seagate 4/8GB
SCSI devices, but they go for ~$250 and my current solution is
working. I'm also fond of the Exabyte 8mm 7/14GB drives although
the price differential from the low-end solutions put be off.

I do make disk-to-disk backups of /etc and /var on another spindle
with some reqularity.

I have a friend in Austin that swears by CDR as his backup medium.
The disks are cheap and you can take the resulting backups with you
anywhere.
