Dropping of network connection on Linux system

Both machines are plugged into the intranet directly. Both to separate
ethernet sockets.
The intranet's gateway is not within my control cos our system
administration team is in charge of that.
But I believe the dhcp server is the same machine.
The dhcp server is expected to give out 1 ip addr for each machine since
there are 2 physically separate connection.
Both have different ip addr when connected.
And both are totally separate machines with one ethernet card in each.
The windows box is setup to dynamically obtain it's ip addr.
The linux box is not hard coded cos it's also setup to dynamically obtain
it's addr.
/etc/sysconfig/network-scripts/ifcfg-eth0's contents are:
DEVICE=eth0
ONBOOT=no
BOOTPROTO=dhcp
