Mandrake-Linux 8.1 will not shutdown X

   Your system is in runlevel 5, which means it will try to keep X running
at all times.  X is probably running on Virtual Terminal 7.  You can
switch to a different terminal by pressing CTRL-ALT-F# where '#' is 1-6.  
That should get you a familiar text-mode login on VT1-VT6.  You can switch
back to X by pressing ALT-F7.
   If you want the system NOT to run X automatically you can edit the 
"/etc/inittab" file, changing the line:
id:5:initdefault:
	to
id:3:initdefault:

   This tells init to go to runlevel 3 (multiuser) instead of 5 (multiuser
w/ X) on the next boot.  I'm sure Mandrake has an easier way to do this,
but I don't happen to know it.
