Right, the code comes from kernel.org, but he means which version, 2.4.18, 2.4.19, 2.4.20...  And don't forget that the bigger linux distros like to patch and add in hardware support, fix 'bugs', add bugs, etc etc.  Last time I ripped apart a redhat kernel srpm, it had over 80 patches in it.
